General Meeting and information & promotion meeting of the polish shipping companies association

On October 28th, a General Meeting and Information & Promotion Meeting was held at the headquarters of DNV Poland sp. z o.o. in Gdynia.

During the General Meeting, several decisions were undertaken with regards to:

  1. strategic cooperation with other organizations (including ECSA), especially in the context of decarbonization of shipping;
  2. problems signaled by members with a proposal to address public authorities by the end of 2021 and in the first months of 2022;
  3. the proposed of the membership fee in 2022;

The General Meeting unanimously admitted Polskie Linie Oceaniczne S.A. as a Full Member of the PSCA – a shipping company with over 70 years of tradition in maritime trade. It is worth mentioning that whole generations of seafarers as well as those who perform managerial functions in the structures of the Association’s members have gathered their experience while working for the Polish Ocean Lines.

After the end of the General Meeting, the Information and Promotion Meeting (IPM) started.

We were privileged to welcome Mr. Andrea Lodolo (President) and Mr. Olle Paullson (Product Development Manager) from SEABLY AB, part of the Swedish Shipowners’ Association (Svensk Sjöfart), who shared their experiences with new methods of training program management by shipping companies and seafarers using the SEABLY Marketplace training platform.

SEABLY AB has already been certified by several flag states, incl. Sweden, Bulgaria, Denmark and Latvia. The Company is also in the process of obtaining certification in other EU countries, including Poland.

Subsequently, Mr. Maciej Dudek (president of RENERGA sp. Z o.o.) shared information on innovative solutions regarding catalysts in the context of adjusting the energy efficiency of a ship’s power plant to the requirements of (inter alia) MEPC 76 (the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions ) issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The requirements of MEPC 76 will enter into force on November 1, 2022 (amendments to Annex VI to MARPOL Convention) and January 1, 2023 (EEXI and CII).

The date of the next IPM will be determined taking into account the epidemic situation in Poland and sanitary requirements.
